Travelling Central Vietnam with Kids — Honest Tips from a Family Driver

From child seat safety to the best family-friendly stops, beaches, and timing — everything I have learned from hundreds of family journeys across Da Nang, Hoi An, and beyond.

Travelling with children in Central Vietnam is genuinely wonderful — Vietnamese culture is deeply child-friendly, locals adore meeting foreign kids, and the pace of life here is relaxed enough to accommodate nap times, slow mornings, and spontaneous detours.

Child Seat Safety

I carry a NuNa Exec child seat that fits children from approximately 9 months to 4 years (up to 18 kg). It is ISOFIX-compatible and installed correctly before every journey. If you have an infant under 9 months, please let me know in advance so we can discuss the best arrangement. I take child safety seriously — it is non-negotiable.

Local Tip

Sue’s Tip: Bring familiar snacks and a small tablet with downloaded shows for longer drives over 1.5 hours. The Hai Van Pass section to Hue (about 40 minutes of winding road) can cause motion sickness in younger children.

Best Family-Friendly Destinations

  • Ba Na Hills — the cable car and Fantasy Park are genuinely thrilling for kids of all ages
  • My Khe Beach — calm, clean, and shallow near the shore; perfect for young children
  • Hoi An Ancient Town — manageable size, flat streets, and lots of interesting shops
  • Marble Mountains — older kids (7+) will love climbing the caves and tunnels
  • Dragon Bridge at night — the fire and water show on weekends is memorable

Timing Your Days

The best strategy with young children is early mornings and late afternoons. Between 11 AM and 3 PM the heat is intense (35°C+ in summer) and tourist sites are crowded. Plan your main sightseeing before 11 AM, rest or swim in the middle of the day, then explore again from 4 PM onward.
